Professional Profile
Brent is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area who spent his formative years in Europe. His parents moved to
Switzerland while he was still a toddler, and he remained there for the next 16 years through his high school
graduation in Geneva in 1985. The years spent growing up in Switzerland had a profound impact on Brent’s life and
career in later years. Beyond the languages (French and German), the experience of growing up in what is considered
one of the most international cities in the world and attending a school with kids from over 120 different countries
(many the sons and daughters of UN functionaries from the nearby UN Headquarters in Geneva), provided Brent with a
very early introduction to the vast diversity of cultures in our global community. This eventually led to his interest in
the field of international logistics, and contributed to the ease with which he is now able to communicate and interact
cross-culturally.
After graduating from high school in Switzerland, Brent moved to the East Coast of the U.S. and attended the
University of Connecticut, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications in 1992.
Thereafter he launched his career in the field of international logistics with the Vancouver, Canada office of Danzas
Corporation, at the time one of the world’s leading logistics providers headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. In what
was a small office, and therefore an excellent training ground, Brent learned many of the different aspects of the
freight forwarding industry, as it is fondly referred to by the community. This encompassed everything from driving a
forklift to processing air export AOG shipments for a company called Canadian Helicopter Corporation. He also
learned about imports, sea freight, custom house brokerage, as well as domestic and transborder services.
Following a year in Canada, Brent returned to his origins in the San Francisco Bay Area and continued his career
there, still with Danzas Corporation. Over the next three decades, Brent honed his skills in the freight forwarding
industry while gradually climbing the ladder. Brent has worked both for large, medium sized, and small companies in
the freight forwarding community, and this has given him an extremely well rounded perspective. His responsibilities
have covered the gamut from operations to project management to sales to branch administration and management.
Brent has led teams of various sizes, the largest one being a team of 30 at DHL Global Forwarding. In his 30 years
Brent has encountered virtually every conceivable obstacle and has always been able to find a way to overcome them,
making him a valuable asset to both the companies he has worked for and customers alike.
